\LDRD Final Report: Physical Simulation of Nonisothermal Multiphase Multicomponent Flow
نویسنده
چکیده
This document reports on the accomplishments of a laboratory-directed research and development (LDRD) project whose objective was to initiate a research program for developing a fundamental understanding of multiphase multicomponent subsurface transport in heterogeneous porous media and to develop parallel processing computational tools for nwnerical simulation of such problems. The main achievement of this project was t5e successful development of a general-purpose, unstructured grid, multiphase thermal simulator for subsurface transport in heterogeneous porocs media implemented for use on massively parzllel (hPj zornputers via messagepassing and domain dwmiposition rechaiques. The numerical platform provides an excellent base for new and continuing project development in xcas of current interest to SNL ar,d the DOE complex including, subsurface nuclear waste disposal and cleanup, groundwater availability and contamination studies, fuel-spill transport for accident analysis, and DNAPL transport and remediation.

متن کاملAn efficient parallel-computing method for modeling nonisothermal multiphase flow and multicomponent transport in porous and fractured media
This paper presents an efficient massively parallel scheme for modeling large-scale multiphase flow, multicomponent transport and heat transfer in porous and fractured reservoirs. The new scheme is implemented into a parallel version of the TOUGH2 code and the numerical performance is tested on a Cray T3E-900 (a distributed-memory parallel computer with 692 processors) and IBM RS/6000 SP (a dis...
متن کاملApplication of Automatic Differentiation for the Simulation of Nonisothermal, Multiphase Flow in Geothermal Reservoirs
Simulation of nonisothermal, multiphase flow through fractured geothermal reservoirs involves the solution of a system of strongly nonlinear algebraic equations. The Newton-Raphson method used to solve such a nonlinear system of equations requires the evaluation of a Jacobian matrix. In this paper we discuss automatic differentiation (AD) as a method for analytically computing the Jacobian matr...

متن کاملQuantitative phase-field modeling of nonisothermal solidification in dilute multicomponent alloys with arbitrary diffusivities.
A quantitative phase-field model is developed for simulating microstructural pattern formation in nonisothermal solidification in dilute multicomponent alloys with arbitrary thermal and solutal diffusivities. By performing the matched asymptotic analysis, it is shown that the present model with antitrapping current terms reproduces the free-boundary problem of interest in the thin-interface lim...
